Number 1 Bullets: 12-31-14

Each week, we take an early look at the new first issues from Dark Horse, Dynamite, IDW, Image, and Valiant Comics and share our thoughts to let you know what we think you should pick up. Only one first issue for this week, and it ain't no monkey business!

This week, Joe Kach reviews Star Trek/Planet of the Apes #1 from IDW and BOOM Studios

Star Trek/Planet of the Apes #1 (IDW/BOOM)-

3 out of 5

Mashing up the classic Star Trek: The Original Series with the Planet of the Apes films of that same era is a total no-brainer, and kudos to IDW and BOOM for taking the leap and making it happen. This first issue is strictly set-up, giving us a by-the-numbers launch to this crossover series. In an effort to stop the Klingons' violent, galactic expansion, Captain Kirk and the members of the Starship Enterprise embark on a transdimensional trek into the heart of the Earth of the Apes. And that's where we leave off. There's quite a bit of exposition here trying to get things going, and the issue is fairly light on the action. Still, the characters seem true to form and the art fits the story well, capturing the looks of the classic television actors. While not the most exciting opening, I am still curious to see where things go. If the cover to #2 is any indication, things may get a little more interesting. (Joe)

Don't just take our word for it ... Pick up the comics yourself and let us know what you think!!
