Jason Todd is Hush

Welcome to another installment of Great Moments in Comic Book History here on MightyVille! Here, we take a look at a single panel from a critical comic book, and highlight the future impact of that magnificent occurrence.

This week we're taking a look at Batman #617, where the mysterious Hush was revealed to be...former Robin, Jason Todd!

Jason Todd met his untimely demise at the hands of the Joker during the seminal Batman: A Death in the Family storyline.  And the saga of Jason's return is long, convoluted, and to be honest, rather frustrating. But, this was the first inkling readers got that the untouchable robin may in fact be touchable after-all. This was back in the early 2000s, where surprises like this could actually be kept. And when fans got a look at this splash page, the collective gasp could be heard across the industry.

Of course, this turned out to be a bait and switch, and it was revealed that it was indeed Clayface posing as Jason Todd...for a while, as it was later revealed that this was indeed Jason Todd who briefly traded places with Clayface... Remember what I said about frustrating? In any case, seeing this gorgeous Jim Lee/Scott Williams page displaying one of the greatest cliffhangers in comic book history is something I won't soon forget.

Batman #617, DC Comics September 2003, written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Jim Lee and Scott Williams.
